Nike Launch So Cal Disruption Pack

Dean Ariola

Southern California’s football scene brings in the inspiration for the launch of the Nike So Cal Disruption Pack. The United States is at the centre of this year’s Copa America action, and two of the venues are housed within the Golden State. Nike has then chosen the Mercurial and the Phantom to banner this pack that is said to encourage self-expression and breaking down barriers, football-wise.

I reckon this pack to be a special one for our American pros and boot lovers, especially those living at the source inspiration of So Cal Disruption. It’s not everyday that the Swoosh brand takes a state at its home country to provide the conceptual design for its football silos.

So Cal Disruption is one of those that has a white base adorned with multicolour graphics. I would say its eccentric, and certainly a unique look for a boot. While most boots would have a blocked design for the colourway, this collection uses abstract placement of geometric shapes to deliver the aesthetic. The most prominent of these are the blue trims, and then the rest dissolves into a combination of pastel shades of green, yellow, purple and pink. Amidst this rainbow visual, Nike attempts to make the Swoosh visible by giving it a pink solid-fill and a heavy blue outline.

The So Cal Mercs wrap the design across the entirety of the Vaporposite+, while the Phantom limits it to the quarter. Besides the colourful theme, names of popular places also revolve around the upper. Isla Vista is known as a college town and for its beach culture. Chula Vista (as written on the Phantom) is that city with a scenic location between the San Diego Bay and the coastal mountain foothills. Dogtown is that area in Santa Monica where a group of surfers started and changed the international skateboarding scene forever.

Other places included on the So Cal Disruption colourway are Pasadena, Great Park, Exposition Park, Mission Valley, Diamond Bar, Via De La Valle and Barrio Logan. What a time to be a football fan and a Southern California tourist! You can remind yourself of the places to visit while enjoying your football on the pitches of So Cal with either the Mercs or the Phantoms of this pack.
