Phantom GT Scorpion

Ian Ebbs

The Phantom GT reminisces a classic Nike football boot ad with the Secret Tournament colourway. Secret Tournament was the iconic TV commercial from the brand during the 2002 World Cup featuring the likes of Henry, Tottie, Vieira, Nakata, Figo, R. Carlos, and Ronaldo competing in a secret ‘cage’ football tournament in a tanker.

As such, this new Phantom GT aptly sports a predominantly metallic silver upper, punctuated by the trademark Phantom GT toe strip and branding which are black and yellow respectively. The hazard symbol at the tip of the tongue also hails from the ad. The Swooshes uses a tonal silver colour, and the ‘PHANTOM GT’ branding on the heel is yellow on a black background with a hazard outline.

The highlight design though is the large scorpion logo on the lateral side near the ankle. ‘SECRET TOURNAMENT’ and ‘ENGINEERED FOR SKILLS’ brandings read at the flanks of the scorpion symbol. Another scorpion logo, this time in yellow, is printed on the forefoot of the glossy black Hyperquick soleplate.

The release of the Phantom GT in the Pure Platinum, Metallic Silver with Black colourway coincides with the Nike scorpion ball release, with matches the current Nike Flight Premier League ball with the silver ball released with the Scorpion graphics back in 2002.
