Raheem Sterling is one of New Balance’s high-profile stars that headline the Furon speed boots. He is joined by Sadio Mane and Bukayo Saka in representing the greatest and latest from the underrated American football boot brand. That adaptive knitted upper and responsive nylon soleplate just simply works with a player as good as Sterling.
Dizzy Heights Furon
While launched at the start of January 2023, Sterling decided to give this Furon a go towards the end of the 2022/23 season. A trademark detail of this orange boot is the dazzling graphic that flows from the heel down to the outsole, interrupted only by the black piece of the nylon plate.
Furon Rare Force Pack
Sterling’s memory of the Rare Force Furon had that Chelsea goal against Dortmund as one of the highlights of their union. With a predominantly white colourway, Sterling’s Rare Force Furon ended up with shades of mud and grass as the attacking player grinded out plays on the front.
NB x Stone Island
With the likes of CR7, Messi and Neymar all wearing signature edition boots in the 2022 World Cup, Sterling might had felt belonging to the same company as he was privileged by New Balance to rock its first-ever collab boot with a luxury brand. While technically not a signature, it still stood out given that the rest of the New Balance World Cup players wore boots from the Headline Taker pack.
What Were Raheem’s Other Boots?
He has previously employed the services of Nike’s Mercurial Vapor lines, Raheem specifically wore their Vapors IX through XII. A report published in August 2019 indicated that Sterling was considering a lucrative £100m boot endorsement deal offered by Nike subsidiary Air Jordan. Jordan have already began their movement into football and boots, with the colab with Neymar for the Hypervenom x Jordan boots, the PSG kit including their European edition and special range of Jordan boots, worn by the French club’s players.
Initially breaking through prominence with Liverpool, Raheem Sterling is now known as a regular in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. In just a few years with the club starting with the 2015-2016 season, he has already collected numerous team awards and individual accolades. He is part of the core group of players that won the Premier League back to back, from the record-breaking 2017-2018 season to the nail-biting finish 2018-2019 season and has recently helped Manchester City in winning the 2019 FA Community Shield, beating Liverpool 5-4 in penalties after a 1-1 scoreline. Last season, he was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and was also named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Usually playing as a left-winger on a front three, Sterling can both assist and score. His small stature, while providing him with a low centre of gravity that assists his technical abilities, completely hides the unreal upper body strength that enables him to withstand challenges. Coupled with excellent dribbling, he can penetrate defences and take advantage of the tightest of spaces.
In the same manner that Carles Puyol has a commanding presence in defence despite lacking height, Sterling’s attacking prowess, despite his frame, is nothing short of powerful, making him a big name for New Balance and their Furon boots.
