Puma Release the Formula Pack

Dean Ariola

With the purple Ultra 5 Carbon already out, the brand completes the Puma Formula Pack with the accompanying Future 7 Ultimate and King 2024 Ultimate. It is going to serve as the official Puma collection for the start of the 2024/25 season. The star of the show is still the Ultra 5 Carbon, but it’s always great to see all Puma silos in one pack. They don’t necessarily share an overall pack theme, so the Formula boots offer competing looks for you to choose from assuming you don’t have any issues wearing any of them.

So the Future Formula opts for a peppermint to blue gradient from bottom to top. That peppermint towards the bottom edge has that aesthetics of having something glow underfoot, as if pressing a lighted key on the pitch, kind of Tron-like vibes if you will. The brandings and logos are white but they are outlined with a gradient of blue to pink.

The King here goes for the clean look white always gives, leaving the Formstrip to get all the visual glory. Starting from the arch and moving towards the tip, one can see the Formstrip starts with that peppermint shade, goes to the purple tone of the Ultra 5 and the finishing off with a pinkish hue. That type of blue seen on the Future helps outline, also in gradient manner, the Formstrip.

Following the initial success of the Ultra 5 Carbon drop, the Formstrip deliver the Puma Ultra 5 Carbon Formula, set to be worn during the knockout stages of the Euro and Copa America 2024. It’s perfect timing of a release, just in time as the competition heats up. At this point we have already heard about the adidas F50+ and the Nike Superfly 10/Vapor 16, so it’s nice to see Puma rising up to the competition. And while Formula also includes a regular Ultimate version, ultimately, its the Carbon that takes the spotlight. Women’s version is included too, so more options are available in terms of fit.

When you hear of Formula, you might immediately think about Formula One. Puma is banking on this to deliver the concept of speed to the Ultra 5 Carbon. But besides using the sport as a reference to speed, Ultra 5 Carbon itself has indeed the formula to be speedy on the pitch. With Puma’s vast motorsport racing experience, it’s easy for Puma to formulate a boot that gives you that undeniable boost when you start accelerating. By now, you should have already heard that the full carbon Speedsystem outsole is just mad explosive!

As far as the looks go, Ultra 5 Carbon does attempt to link itself to the summer competitions and to the Forever Faster Pack. It does so through the salmon accents on the stud tips and the Formstrip outline, as well as the central trim. Carbon outsole retains that sleek black shade that screams speed from toe to heel. To stand on its own, Ultra 5 Carbon Formula cloaks itself with a deep blue colourway. It’s a shade that somehow also expresses some violet hues depending on the lighting condition.

Expect to see at least one, if not all of your Puma Ultra international stars like Christian Pulisic, Memphis Depay, and Antoine Griezmann to rock a pair soon.
