Nike Phantom Luna/GX 2 Joins the 23/24 Black Pack

Dean Ariola

There’s always a first time for everything, and for the Phantom Luna/GX 2, it’s first black edition comes out right now. The boot will join the 2023/24 Shadow Pack as the updated entry for the Phantom line. Given the silhouette of the second Luna/GX, it definitely exudes some black Magista Obra feels. And like modern black boots, some details are left to be coloured (most especially the fact that it is part of a 2023/24 season’s black, it has to join that thematic accent!). So if you’re a melanophile when it comes to boots and you’re vibing with the latest Phantom, this Nike boot is a certainly what the doctor just ordered…

The 2023/24 Shadow Luna/GX 2 looks pretty sleek up top and is almost completely lights out. Flyknit, thumbprint, Gripknit, Luna collar, quarter overlay-all are black with some tonal variety. Even the Swoosh on the medial side of the overlay and the heel branding are devoid of any colour. With such a focused colourway, Nike is able to do a minimalist yet effective brand detailing in white on the lateral side, inserting a compact Swoosh on the forefoot and outlining the relatively longer one on the quarter. The boot then signs-off with a small-scaled Nike Gripknit wording above the latter.

Lift each step and you’ll see where the connection of this black Luna/GX 2 to the pack is made clear. Majority of the soleplate and studs are still in black, and Nike uses that backdrop to highlight the forefoot Cyclone 360. The studs up front go in white and the circular panel bearing the Cyclone 360 symbol pop in royal blue. It is indeed an understated way of going full circle with the Luna/GX 2 as far as the 2023/24 Shadow Pack is concerned.
