Hearing out the feedback of their female football athletes, Nike has now unveiled the women-led Phantom Luna. No, it’s not just a resizing of the Phantom GX. It carries out features are designed to cater the uniqueness and nuances of a woman’s foot anatomy in football action. The reveal is a significant one in women’s football, considering the Women’s World Cup in a few months time.
A boot that changes football for athletes changing everything.
Introducing the all-new Phantom Luna—a testament to female footballers’ talent, dedication and
passion. Coming June 28.🌙#NikeFC pic.twitter.com/c6fD0WoDKx— Nike Football (@nikefootball) June 7, 2023
First off, the Phantom Luna has a Nike Asym Fit shape that has a more snug fit around the ankle, addressing a significant fitting issue when it comes to women trying out men’s football boots. Supporting that snug Asym Fit is a high-collar structure to reinforce the fitting preferences of the female player.
Another thing the Phantom Luna markets is the Nike Cyclone 360, referring to the circular formation of the bladed studs both on the forefoot and heel. Nike indicates Cyclone 360 is striking that sweet spot between traction and agility.
Lastly, Nike applies the innovative Gripknit upper on the Phantom Luna so that women footballers can also gain the benefit of added ball grip in their touches. The upper has additional curved ridges on the outstep and also an off-centre lacing system. Looks-wise, the launch colourway of Luna does bear some semblance to the Just Do It Mercurial Superfly from the 2018 World Cup.
