Gavi’s Football Boots

Dean Ariola

Gavi wears releases from the Phantom line. Nike markets the silo as the boot for midfielders, for players with impeccable skills on the ball and for those who dictate the flow of the game from the middle third. The young Spanish midfielder clearly fits the bill of what an ideal Nike Phantom player is.

Phantom GX Low Peak Ready

Gavi got going in the 2023/24 UCL group phase. And he did so wearing the Peak Ready GX. With Peak Ready, the quarter took on the thematic Hyper Turquoise colour, leaving the Gripknit upper in an off-white tone. Adorning the upper was the solid-filled black Swoosh that further housed a small purple one on its elbow.

Ready GX

He might have worn the yellow Luminous GX in preseason and training. But Gavi played most of the opening months of 2023/24 with the player-wide Ready Pack GX release. That was the Phantom GX with a red Gripknit layer on the front attached to a black quarter. It also had a black Swoosh outline housing a solid-filled small white Swoosh on its elbow.

Link GX Fusion

After Foden and Haaland, Gavi was next to wear the Fusion Phantom GX Link. And just like the two, Gavi seemed to perform well wearing the said edition of the GX, notching important wins for the club including an El Clasico victory against nemesis Real Madrid.

Blast Nike Phantom GX

Gavi missed the chance to wear the pink ‘‘Disruption’ debut colourway of the Phantom GX, but the midfielder jumped on to the new Phantom line as soon as the second 2022/23 On-pitch Nike pack was released. Called the Blast Pack, the collection featured the GX in a fun colour combination of white and what is officially labeled as ‘Baltic Blue,’ with that kind of shape to remind you about the cool waters of the sea.

Qatar World Cup ‘Generation‘ Phantom GT

Gavi rocked a pair of the black and copper Phantom GT 2s and played on Spain’s starting XI last 2022 World Cup. Had Spain reach the semifinals of the tournament, Gavi surely would had been part of the Phantom Nike players to debut the next-gen Phantom GX boots.

What’s Gavi Wearing?

Gavi’s official boot history includes both generations of the Nike Phantom GT. He wore the green ‘Impulse‘ GT 1 dedicated for the Euro 2020, and went through various colourways for the GT 2 such as the Progress, Motivation, Recharge and Lucent.

At such a young age, Gavi has become a major part of the rotation for both club and country. He normally plays on the right side of the midfield and is known for his intelligence on the pitch. Perhaps due to being a homegrown Barcelona talent, Gavi has that composure to be press-resistant, the pre-knowledge of what to do next upon receiving the ball and that nice quick turn to immediately initiate a counter attack. The new Xavi-Iniesta duo has been raised due to Gavi playing alongside the equally talented Pedri for both FC Barcelona and Spain football team. In 2022, he was awarded with the Golden Boy award, beating the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.
