Air Max 97
Introduced more than 20 years ago, Air Max 97 continues to be one of the best shoes today. Its sleek, curvy silhouette matches the suave of CR7’s stature, which is why the Air Max 97 has a significant presence in the Portuguese star’s collection. Nike even gave the said model a CR7 signature release called ‘Golden Patchwork.’ With the ‘Golden Patchwork’, the seamless flowing aesthetics of the Air Max 97 partner with a gold colourway and obvious seam stitchings as part of the design. The shoe tells the story of how CR7’s mother used to patch up his football shoes whenever they ended up with holes.
Ronaldo shares that the shoe is about everyone having equal opportunities to someday progress in life, reflected in the fact that he started with nothing and now has Nike shoes whenever and however he wants them. It’s interesting to note that the curves and the gold base resemble the golden versions of the early Mercurial boots he used to wear. A red version called ‘Portugal Patchwork’ focused more on his roots and heritage.
Free x Metcon
What about something related to training or performance? In that regard, CR7 affiliates himself with the Free x Metcon. The idea behind the model is to take on everything from a short run to a studio class to free weights and kettlebells, thanks to the effective combination of the flexible Free outsole and stability of Metcon. Launched in 2018, the trainer is now on its fourth generation. Ronaldo, for his part, secured a signature model just a month after the release of the Free x Metcon 1.

Air Force One
CR7 started wearing a pair of Air Force Ones when he was in England and wore them for two reasons: they are white and comfortable. The comfort and the looks make the AFO versatile enough to be partnered with any clothing, be it tracksuits or smart casual wear. The white-on-white edition of the modern low-cut variant is the definition of fresh.
Nike adds a luxurious touch to this CR7 AF1 favourite by including it in the ‘Golden Patchwork,’ incorporating gold details such as the textured Swoosh, tongue and heel brandings in honour of Cristiano’s humble beginnings.
In 2021, Nike’s golden boy offered a limited-edition release customisable in Nike By You service. It featured coloured outlines on the seams and the Swoosh, the latter further detailed by the popular Safari print from Ronaldo’s signature Mercurials.

Air Jordan Shoes
CR7 seems to like the Jordan brand, particularly the Air Jordans. Youtube channel Complex featured CR7 on Episode 1, Season 7 of its Sneaker Shopping series. At the end of the video, Ronaldo bought Air Jordan IVs, specifically the ‘Cactus Jack’ and Levi’s collab editions, and a couple of the Air Jordan XX (XX1 and XX3 ‘The Trophy Room’). Jordan and CR7? Ultimate greatness combo, indeed.
