Kylian Mbappe is now PSG’s all-time leading scorer, and to celebrate the 201st goal that put him past Edinson Cavani, Nike gifts its prized superstar with an exclusive pair of Nike Mercurial Superfly 9 boots. The celebratory football boots looks back to where it all started for the striker’s incredible goal-scoring milestone, with the chosen design sure to evoke nostalgia regarding past Mercurial generation and colourway.
The predominantly yellow colourway with a black quarter fade and a striping pattern in black and volt across the upper was the exact design of the Mercurials in the ‘Lock in Let Loose’ Pack, the first Nike football boot collection for the 2017/2018 season. Back then, Mbappe was wearing the low-cut Vapor 11s together with Neymar, who was still with the Swoosh brand during that time.
For the iteration of the ‘Lock In Let Loose’ in the said commemorative Superfly 9s, Nike adds the recordholder’s bespoke lettermark just below the collar and the number ‘201’ around the tip of the Swoosh, all of which can be seen on the lateral side. There is also a narrow PSG Hechter stripe running down the heel. With a text overlay that reads ‘04.03.2023 / PSG v NANTES,’ the boot will forever commemorate the date and matchday opponent that saw Mbappe rewrite PSG history.
