Reus began his career at Rot Weiss Ahlen in 2006 before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2009 signing a four year contract at the club. In August 2009 Reus scored his first Bundesliga goal against Mainz 05 after a 50 metre solo run.
In January 2012 Reus signed for his boyhood club Borussia Dortmund for €17.1 million on a five year deal. He made his Dortmund debut in August 2012 scoring against Werder Bremen in a 2-1 win. He then netted a brace against his former club Borussia Monchengladbach in in a 5-0 win. In his first season at the club he scored 19 goals in 47 matches helping the side to reach the 2012-13 UEFA Champions League Final where they lost to Bayern Munich.
Reus has worn several boots in his career, including his current boot the Puma evoPOWER. Reus is one of the headline players to wear Puma's power silo along with Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas.
