Honda became an instant hero at the club where he helped the Russian club to win the 2012-13 Russian Premier League, two Russian Cups and one Russian Super Cup. In October 2013 Honda had agreed on a move to Italian club AC Milan where he would move to the club in January 2014.

Honda is considered to be the only major wearer of Mizuno's power boot the Wave Ignitus. The boot is designed for a player like Honda who has world class free kick and set piece taking abilities. The boot optimises power through the use of panels on the upper which swerve and sway the ball making it extremely difficult for goalkeepers to pick up. Honda previously wore all the Wave Ignitus generations.
