Drugs in Football Boots

Football boots are generally thought of as an aid to playing football, however a man in the UK found another use for them. The courier named Stephen McRoy hid drugs inside his footy boots as a way for them to be hidden from the police.

Hiding drugs in footy bootsThe incident occured in the Salford area and Stephen was said to be given £300 if he handed the drugs over to people in a car, Stephen McRoy was found to be charged with 4 accounts of possessing drugs with an intent to supply them and he pleaded guilty for this. He was on the edge of the road, waiting, and using his mobile trying to ring somebody, he had a bag with him and two footy boots were in there wrapped up in cling film, once opened the boots contain drugs such as Heroin and other drugs. They had a value of over £2,000 .  Police believed that they would be thrown over prison fences for those inside where the value triples.

Terry and Rooney killing Kangaroos

Footballers such as Chelsea’s John Terry and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney have come under fire for having a role to play in the killing of Kangaroo’s and the deaths of the Kangaroo babies who both provide skin for certain football boots they have worn. By wearing boots made by big manufacturers who use this kangaroo skin in their football boots these players have come under criticism from many Animal welfare campaigns who have noted the cruelty of these killings simply for the leather.

Kangaroo football bootsThese campaigners are wanting the ban of killing the kangaroos for their skins and a European ban is being requesting to deal with this issue. The likes of Adidas and Nike all use Kangaroo skin as well as Puma who also use them to make some of the top football boots available.

Many footballers have in fact stopped wearing boots made from kangaroo leather, David Beckham stopped wearing Kangaroo leather boots in 2006 after graphic video was sent to him showing the slaughter of the Kangaroos by Viva an animal welfare campaign group. The companies all have released statements stating that they do use Kangaroo leather however that the Kangaroos killed are done so in humane and legal ways that comply with regulations in the countries they are in.

We feel that although many of the top manufacturers do use Kangaroo skin to create football boots they all do this legally and in compliance with local laws and so it’s largely up to the authorities to create legislation that helps in regard to this.

Football Boot World Cup Goals

Now that the Fifa World Cup has reached the last 16 it’s interesting to see which football boots have scored the most goals and who was wearing that’s why our friends over at Kitbag have created a nice list which shows you. It’s featured below:

1. Adidas F50 Adizero – 22 goals ( David Villa, Diego Forlan, Gonzalo Higuain all wear this boot)
2. Nike Mercurial Superfly II – 13 goals (Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Luis Fabiano wear these boots)
3. Nike T90 Laser III Elite – 8 goals (Worn by the likes of  Wesley Sneijder, Miroslav Klose, Elano)
4. Adidas Predator X – 7 goals (Worn by players such as Steven Gerrard and Dennis Rommedahl)
5. Nike CTR360 Maestri Elite – 6 goals
6. (joint 5th) Adidas adiPURE III – 6 goals (Worn by footballers such as Tiago and Gabriel Heinze)

fifa world cupThere seems to be two manufacturers who are the favoured boot by world cup stars. These are Nike Football Boots and Adidas Football Boots and we aren’t sure yet which are winning it. Which wins will is open to debate, the boot which scores the most goals, the boot that is most worn in the winning squad or the boot that scores the winning goal in the world cup final or it could even be the most popular sold football boot over the world cup period. We will keep an open eye and say that both Nike and Adidas have some cracking boots and that it’s often down to sponsorship of the player which ultimately decides which boot they will wear.

Football Boots For Charity

We initially wrote about an ex boxer who was wanting old football boots for Africa and now a Ford Dealership have also just recently decided that they would ask for football boots in order to send to charities as well. The Ford dealership is based in Chelmsford and is called Dagenham Motors.

Football Boots for AfricaThis dealership has become an official deposit point for dropping off old football boots in order to donate them to children in Africa who play without anything on their feet at all. The charity was set up by Sheffield. F.C and is aiming to get as many pairs of boots as possible to Africa. They are also wanting football shirts and trainers that they can give to children in Africa who are not as lucky as you and me who can go and buy some.

If you have a some football boots and want to donate them you can drop them off when the Dealership is open and the address is below:

Cuton Hall Lane, Springfield,

You may drop them off until the end of the Fifa world cup which is on July 11th, you may want to ask friends and family if they have any spare trainers, football boots or shirts they want to donate and bring them in at the same time. Also if you just have one boot then thats fine too as these are useful for those who have lost a leg in a landmine.

For more information visit the charity sites. http://www.bootsforafrica.org

Lionel Messi and others to weigh lightest fotball boots ever

Lots of eyes will be on Lionel Messi arguably the world’s best player during the 2010 south africa world cup and Adidas have just announced that Messi will be wearing the Adidas F50 AdiZeros football boots . They are claimed to be some of the lightest ever boots ever made weighing just 164grams for a boot sized 8.

adidas f50 adizero football bootsThe boots are made of  polymer which is a german invented material named polyurethane, as it is a single layer there is no need for extra padding which means that the player can turn faster than in other boots, there is an issue that this could mean less protection for players and more prone to injuries.

Other players who will be sporting these football boots are  Jermain Defoe for England and David Villa for Spain.  We think that with some of the world class players sporting these they may become very popular indeed.

They aren’t available in the UK as of yet but as soon as they are we will feature them on our blog. We’ve attached a video which shows you the advert for them that Adidas have created for these F50 boots.

Man City Spending Spree List

Rumours have been flying around that the Manchester City owners have created a list for the summer of all the players they wish to purchase, the list is said to be around £150 million according the reports from the Daily Star. torres to citySome of the names on the list include Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, He has a price attached to him of around £60 million which is what they are said to speculate that Liverpool would sell him for.

Other names that are said to be in are Boateng from Hamburg, Cesc Fabregas the midfielder from Arsenal and Barcelona’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Of course these are all ‘pencilled in’ and also rumours so it will be hard to say who they will actually actively seek in the summer transfer window.

In other news Manchester United player Federico Macheda’s agent has said that Man Utd see the player as unsellable and so there will be no move in the next year or so for him. verton player Steven Pienaar has been to said to give Everton until the end of this current season to meet the demands of £60,000 per week in wages otherwise he will leave the club. Totenham and Bayern Munich have been said to be interested in signing Pienaar from Everton.

If City end up signing one or two of the players they have on the ‘list’ then it may make a team which is good enough to challenge for the Title next year which will make it an interesting season especially with the Derby between United and City hotting up as ever.

Manchester Derby – No Alcohol

The big Manchester derby comes around again tomorow at 12.45pm and will be shown around the city and in 3d in some pubs. Manchester police have issued a no alcohol zone between the city centre and the Manchester City stadium.

This is interesting as this has not happened too many times before, there is a lot riding on both teams at this game and so tensions will be even greater than normal. United need a win to still be in with a chance to win the premier league and City want every point to secure 4th place.

Rumours that Rooney will be available to play are around and it looks more than likely that he will be, other rumours surrounding Rooney suggest Real will be putting in a £90million bid to buy the striker from Manchester United with reports that he would be offered £250,000 a week! Sir Alex Ferguason has denied these and said that Rooney will be at United next year.

Our personal predicitions for the game tomorow is United 3-2. We are going to watch the game in 3D and it’s a first for many of us going so we will report back as to how it was and what our thoughts were on it.
